AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 33 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 match to No. 9 Columbus State Friday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
The Pacers are now 6-7 overall and 2-5 in league play. The Cougars improve to 15-1 overall and 7-1 against conference foes.
Head coach
Steve Dahm's team trailed 2-1 after doubles action. The No. 3 tandem of
Wojciech Adamek and
Hunter Lathrop notched an 8-5 victory. Top-seeded
Mathias Degardin and
Julien Tan lost by an 8-5 count while
Antonio Sabugueiro and
Tales Silva put up a good match, but came up short by an 8-4 score.
In singles action, Degardin lost the first set 6-4, but bounced back for an emphatic 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 2 spot.
Silva posted an epic win at the No. 6 spot. He won the first set 6-4 before falling 2-6 in the second frame. However, he ended up winning the tiebreaker 13-11.
Sabugueiro lost a match in extra points at the top slot. He put up a great battle, but came up short by scores of 7-5, 7-6.
The Pacers return to action tomorrow when they host Georgia Southwestern at 11 a.m.
