COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team posted a 9-0 road win at Benedict Thursday afternoon at Benedict.
The Pacers are now 6-6 overall while the Tigers fall to 9-5.
Head coach
Steve Dahm's team jumped out to a 3-0 lead after cruising in doubles action. The No. 1 tandem of Marie Habiyaremye and
Olivera Veskovac notched an 8-3 victory.
Alice Neves and
Victoria Giannaccini, playing at the No. 2 spot, won by an identical 8-3 margin.
Brigitta Mirak and
Marta Quereda, playing at the No. 3 position, posted an 8-2 win.
Veskovac's match at the No. 1 slot was the toughest of the day in singles play. She won the first set 6-3, but dropped the second one by a 6-0 score. However, Veskovac came back to win the third frame 10-7.
Mirak stepped in at the No. 2 position and bested her foe 6-1, 6-1. Giannaccini tallied a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 3 slot. At No. 4, Habiyaremye totaled a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Neves posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 5 position while Quereda closed out the match at No. 6. She won by a 6-1, 6-3 score.
The Pacers return to action tomorrow when they head to Clayton State for a match starting at 2:30 p.m.
