AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 30 University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team swept Augusta by a 9-0 score Tuesday afternoon in a league contest.
The Pacers improve to 5-6 on the season while picking up their first conference victory of the season.
Head coach
Steve Dahm's team was not seriously challenged in doubles action. The No. 1 squad of Marie Habiyaremye and
Olivera Veskovac posted an 8-3 victory.
Kayla Calvert and
Brigitta Mirak faced stiffer competition, but was up to the task with an 8-6 win.
Victoria Giannaccini and
Nadine Tusiama combined for an 8-4 victory at the No. 3 spot.
In singles action, top-seeded Tusiama cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win. Veskovac needed to play extra, but posted a 7-6, 7-5 victory.
Calvert, seeing time at the No. 3 position, won by an identical 7-6, 7-5 score. Mirak tallied a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 position.
Giannaccini lost the first set 6-3, but rebounded for a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 5 slot. Habiyaremye closed out the team victory with a 6-4, 6-1 decision at the No. 6 spot.
The Pacers return to action Thursday when they travel to Benedict for a 2:30 p.m., match.
