Box Score COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 1 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost an 8-1 decision at Columbus State Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 19-6 while the Cougars stand at 15-8.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, head coach
Kenny Thomas' team knotted the contest in the third stanza.
Skylar Mercado singled to center field to lead off the frame. He moved to second on
Jose Bonilla's sacrifice bunt. A groundout pushed Mercado to third and he raced home on
Mitchell Price's single through the right side.
USC Aiken placed a pair of runners on in the fifth when Bonilla singled.
Luke Westerberg garnered a single, but a line drive ended the threat.
The Pacers added two runners in the sixth, but the squad was unable to push across any more runs.
The home team plated two runs in the third, one in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth for the 8-1 win.
For the game, Westerberg led the visitors with a pair of hits. Bonilla, Price,
Zach Moon,
Jonathan Banks and Mercado all registered base knocks.
