AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team garnered an 8-1 victory over Belmont Abbey Thursday in a non-conference contest.
The Pacers are now 2-1 on the season.
USC Aiken reeled off three wins in doubles action and never looked back. The No. 1 tandem of
Antonio Sabugueiro and
Tales Silva notched an 8-2 win. Second-seeded
Hunter Lathrop and
Wojciech Adamek tallied an 8-3 victory. At the No. 3 slot, the duo of
Alvaro Garcia Gil and
Jaime Gusano registered an 8-2 win.
In singles action, the Pacers cruised in nearly each of the matches. Sabugueiro totaled a 6-1, 6-1 win at the top spot.
Julien Tan needed extra time, but earned a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 2. Lathrop tallied a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 3 position.
Garcia Gil had a tightly contested match, but pulled off a 7-5, 7-6 win at No. 5. Silva completed the win with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 6.
The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host Erskine at 12 p.m.
