AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team defeated Newberry 8-1 Monday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 1-1 on the year while the Wolves fall to 4-2.
Head coach
Steve Dahm's team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles action and never looked back.
Top-seeded
Nadine Tusiama and
Olivera Veskovac dispatched their opposition by an 8-5 count. That was the closest doubles competition of the day for USC Aiken.
At the No. 2 slot, the tandem of
Kayla Calvert and
Brigitta Mirak notched an 8-2 victory. The No. 3 seeded
Alice Neves and Marie Habiyaremye won by the same score.
In singles action, Tusiama wasted little time in her 6-1, 6-1 victory. Calvert won a hard-fought 6-2, 7-5 competition at No. 3.
Mirak registered her first straight-set victory, claiming a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No.4 slot.
At the No. 5 spot,
Victoria Giannaccini registered a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Habiyaremye closed out the Wolves with a strong 6-0, 6-2 win.
The Pacers return to action Thursday when they host Belmont Abbey at 3 p.m.
