AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 39 University of South Carolina Aiken men's tennis team lost a hard fought contest to Flagler Sunday afternoon by a 5-4 score.
The Pacers are now 3-3 on the season, including 0-2 in league play.
Head coach
Steve Dahm's team fell behind 2-1 after doubles action, but bounced back in singles play.
The doubles tandem of
Antonio Sabugueiro and
Tales Silva notched an 8-5 victory at the No. 2 slot. Third-seeded
Wojciech Adamek and
Hunter Lathrop lost their match by a 9-8 count.
Mathias Degardin and
Julien Tan, who were competing at the top spot, dropped an 8-6 decision.
USC Aiken knotted the score at 2-2 when Sabugueiro dismantled his foe at the No. 2 position. Sabugueiro won his match by a 6-1, 6-2 count.
The Saints netted wins at No. 1 and No. 5, clinching the match. However, Silva registered a 6-0, 7-6 victory at No. 6 before Lathrop posted an excellent come-from-behind win. Playing at the No. 4 slot, Lathrop bounced back from a 6-4 loss in the first set to win 6-2, 6-1.
Degardin and
Alvaro Garcia Gil lost their respective matches, but forced each contest to extra points.
The Pacers return to action Friday when they play North Georgia at 2:30 p.m.
