Each week of the 2016 USC Aiken baseball season, the sports information office will produce game notes.
Goings, Goings, Gone!
Although USC Aiken did not have a ton of bright spots in the loss to Newberry last week, one bright spot came via the bat of Nile Goings. Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second, the USC Aiken slugger blasted a pitch high over the fence for a solo round-tripper.
Lynch's Solid Performance
Senior Jimmy Lynch is not accustomed to coming in early in games, he was forced into action against Newberry after the Pacers managed to get only one out in the top of the first. He came in and performed well, going 4.2 innings. He struck out six and gave up just three hits. Fifty-seven of his 87 pitches went for strikes.
Cole Controls The Strike Zone
Against the Wolves, Cole Lee came in to work the final four frames. He managed to scatter five hits while striking out one. Lee found the strike zone on 68 percent of his pitches (36/53) in the game.
Moon Shines Before Night Falls
In the opening game against No. 9 Florida Southern, Zach Moon's performance brightened the night. He opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with a two-run single, which proved to be more than enough for Erik Davis. Moon went two-for-four in the 4-0 victory.
Davis Dominates
Erik Davis took control of the game in the win over No. 9 Florida Southern. He gave up just two hits to the high-powered offense while striking out nine in seven innings of work. His performance allowed USC Aiken's 4-0 lead to stand while he picked up his fourth win of the season.
Marlow's Masterpiece
Joe Marlow tamed the Moccasins on Saturday afternoon with a brilliant performance. He worked eight innings and gave up just two runs, but only one was earned. Marlow struck out seven and did not walk a batter en route to improving to 7-1 on the season.
Oops. He Did It Again!
For the second time in three games, Nile Goings blasted a pitch out of the ballpark. However, this time, the round-tripper was not wasted. Goings' three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning propelled the Pacers to a 4-2 win after trailing 2-1 when he stepped up to the plate.
Last Time Out
USC Aiken lost a pair of games against Catawba last season, including the regular-season finale by an 8-6 count. The Pacers won a pair of games against Flagler last year, but lost the finale by an 11-8 score.
Against The Opponents
