USC Aiken Men's Basketball Notes - Week 2

Each week throughout the 2016 USC Aiken men's basketball season, the sports information office will produce weekly notes.

Opening With A Win

The 91-69 victory over St. Andrews in the season-opener was a good thing for USC Aiken. It marked the first time since the 2012-13 season that USC Aiken had posted a win on season-opening night. During the 2012-13 season, the Pacers downed Vorhees 92-72 – and that year the program made a trip to its first-ever Elite Eight.

Matthews Leaves His Mark

Sophomore Mark Matthews had a dominating all-around performance in the victory over St. Andrews. He tallied a team-best 22 points but corralled a game and career-high 23 rebounds. The 23 boards marked the most in USC Aiken's Division II history.

More About The Record

In addition to setting the USC Aiken Division II record, Mark Matthews' 23 rebounds marked the third most by a student-athlete in the entire history of the Peach Belt Conference.

Sharing Is Caring

Senior Christian Nobles has the ability to be a scorer and a passer. He managed to do both very well in the season-opening win. Nobles poured in 21 points, which was second best on the team. He also dished out a game-best six assists in the 22-point victory.

Sharpshooting By The Sharpshooter

Freshman Nenad Milenkovic had been talked about as someone who had uncanny accuracy coming out of high school. In his collegiate debut, he did not disappoint. Milenkovic nailed a game-high four three-point shots. For the game, he was four-of-seven from downtown.

Kevin's Controlling The Lane

Graduate student Kevin Chuisseu is an imposing figure in the lane. He showed off his skills in the win over St. Andrews as he controlled the paint. Chuisseu blocked a game-best three shots.

Nine Of 10

In the season-opening game, 10 student-athletes saw time for head coach Mark Vanderslice. He had solid scoring throughout and nine of the 10 players scored at least three points.

Inside The Numbers

This week, USC Aiken hosts Lees-McRae on Saturday, Nov. 19. The Pacers are 166-153 in games played on Saturday since moving to Division II (52.0 percent). The squad is 4-1 in games played on Nov. 19 since the move.

Against The Opponent

This week, USC Aiken hosts Lees-McRae. The Pacers are 2-0 in the all-time series against LMC. However, the last time the teams squared off was Nov. 19, 1997.
