FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team dropped two matches in the double-elimination Peach Belt Conference Tournament Thursday. The squad fell by identical 5-0 scores. The team lost the opener to top-seeded and No. 2 Armstrong before losing to Georgia College in the consolation bracket.
The Pacers are now 13-10 on the season.
Against the Pirates, the team was behind 3-0 after doubles competition. Playing at the No. 1 doubles spot, Nadine Tusiama and Shauna Williams lost an 8-1 match to their opposition, ranked No. 2 nationally. Margot Simon and Franziska Regel dropped an 8-3 contest to their opponents, ranked No. 8 nationally. Victoria Jasko and Charlotte Gerenwood fell by an 8-3 count at the No. 3 spot.
In singles action, Simon lost 6-0, 6-1 and Greenwood suffered a 6-1, 6-0 defeat at the No. 6 slot. Tusiama, Williams, Jasko and Regel did not finish their matches as the Pirates had claimed the victory.
Against the Bobcats, Simon and Regel played as the No. 3 seed and came extremely close to a win, but lost a 9-8 decision. Tusiama and Williams fell by an 8-4 score at No. 2 while Julia Arruda and Jasko lost by an identical 8-4 count.
Arruda lost a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 3 while Regel fell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6. Simon, Tusiama, Williams and Jasko did not complete their respective matches.
