BELMONT, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's tennis team registered a 9-0 victory in its season opener at Belmont Abbey Friday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 1-0 on the young season.
Shauna Williams and Nadine Tusiama started off the winning spree with a 8-2 victory at the No. 1 spot. Franziska Regel and Ella Rhodin followed up with an 8-1 victory at the No. 2 position. Margot Simon and Julie Arruda finished the doubles action with a 8-0 win in the No. 3 slot.
In singles play, the USC Aiken team took the spread winning all six matches.
Simon shut out BAC to start the singles action in the No. 1 spot, winning with straight 6-0, 6-0 set victories.
In the No. 2 position, Tusiama continued the trend, taking a 6-0 victory in the first set. She then took the match with a 6-1 win in the second frame.
Arruda took control of the No. 3 slot with a firm 6-1 win in the first set. She followed that up with another victory, 6-4, in the second set to close out the match.
USC Aiken shut down Belmont once again in the No. 4 position as Regel took forceful back to back 6-0 sets.
Williams and Lawrence finished up the victory mirrioring match wins. Williams scored a 6-1 win in the first set and a 6-0 victory in the second frame at the No. 5 spot. Lawrence accompanied that in the No. 6 slot with first and second set victories of 6-0 and 6-1, respectively.
The Pacers look to remain unbeaten as they return home on Sunday to face Clark Atlanta at 12:00 p.m.
