AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken tennis teams were unable to overcome Georgia College on Saturday afternoon at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex.
In a battle of two top-30 teams, the nationally 17th-ranked Georgia College men (17-3, 7-2 PBC) bested the 30th-ranked USC Aiken men (9-6, 3-6 PBC), 5-3.
In the women's match, the 43rd-ranked Georgia College women (12-9, 6-6 PBC) downed the USC Aiken women (10-8, 5-7 PBC), 5-1.
In the men's match, USC Aiken entered singles with a 2-1 advantage after wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
USC Aiken's Andy Quirk (Glasgow, Scotland/Wisconsin) and Bruno Orlandini (Araraquara, SP, Brazil/Longwood) bested Georgia College's Andreas Ainalides and Alex Schubert, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles. USC Aiken's Kevin Zerath (Marseilles, France/Euromed Management Marseille) and Ronan Reberac (Contes, France/Lycée Guillaume Apollinaire) obtained an 8-4 win over Georgia College's Johan Wadstein and Mattia Campus at No. 3 doubles.
Georgia College would pick up its victory by taking four wins in singles.
USC Aiken's lone win in singles came at No. 3 singles where Ettore Damiani (Genoa, Italy/University of Genoa) defeated Georgia College's Yannick Hass 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. Damiani has now won 13 straight singles matches. He is 8-1 on the year in Peach Belt Conference action.
In the women's match, USC Aiken claimed its lone point of the match when Margot Simon (Nantes, France/St. Joseph de Loquidy) and Franziska Regel (Hamburg, Germany/Gymnasium Farmsen) downed Georgia College's Ivana Marevic and May Johnson, 8-6.
USC Aiken will close out its 2013 regular-season with two matches next week.
The Pacers will first close their league and home slate with a 2:30 p.m. match against North Georgia at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex on Tuesday, April 9.
One day later, USC Aiken will square off against Wingate in Wingate, N.C. on Wednesday, April 10. USC Aiken's final road match of the year is set for a 2:30 p.m. start.
