AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken tennis teams team were unable to upset the nationally-ranked Augusta State tennis teams at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
The nationally 46th-ranked Augusta State women (14-4, 7-3 PBC) acquired a 5-1 victory over the USC Aiken women (8-6, 3-5 PBC).
The nationally ninth-ranked Augusta State men (10-8, 4-3 PBC) narrowly escaped the USC Aiken men (6-4, 1-4 PBC), winning 5-4.
USC Aiken obtained its lone singles points in the women's match at No. 1 singles with Margot Simon (Nantes, France/St. Joseph de Loquidy) defeating Victoria Lindqvist of Augusta State 6-0, 6-2.
In the men's match, USC Aiken entered singles action with a 2-1 advantage as the Pacers garnered wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Augusta State would go on to claim four of the six singles flights to capture its narrow win. Ettore Damiani (Genoa, Italy/University of Genoa) won at No. 4 singles for the Pacers, while Lucas Gobbi (Santa Bárbara d'Oeste, Brazil/Colegio Politec) won at No. 5 singles.
The week will close next for the Pacer tennis teams on the road against conference newcomer Young Harris in Young Harris, Ga. on Friday, March 29. The action is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
