AIKEN, S.C. – The nationally-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken tennis teams swept North Greenville on Thursday afternoon at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex.
The nationally 35th-ranked USC Aiken men (3-1) claimed a 6-1 victory over the North Greenville men (1-4).
The nationally 44th-ranked USC Aiken women (6-2) acquired a 7-2 win over the North Greenville women (1-4).
The Pacer men swept the doubles action with the No. 3 doubles duo of Ettore Damiani (Genoa, Italy/University of Genoa) and Lucas Gobbi (Santa Bárbara d'Oeste, Brazil/Colegio Politec) blanking North Greenville's James Klempin and John Melson, 8-0.
Patrick Stiebinger (Weiden, Germany/Wichita State University) picked up the biggest win of the day for the Pacer men in singles. He downed North Greenville's Guilherme Ferreira 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
In the women's match, North Greenville obtained the win in two out of the three doubles matches.
The Pacers rebounded by sweeping all six singles flights in its eventual 7-2 victory.
Margot Simon (Nantes, France/St. Joseph de Loquidy) and Giovanna Ramos (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Externato Mater Domus) paced USC Aiken in singles with Ramos winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Simon claiming a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles.
USC Aiken's Kim Beyer (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown HS) picked up her first win of the year at No. 6 singles with a 1-6, 6-1, 10-3 win over North Greenville's Haley Hardwick.
Due to weather forcing scheduling changes for their next two upcoming matches, the nationally-ranked Pacer tennis teams will next return to action by hosting Benedict at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 1.
