USC Aiken Men and Women Drop PBC Road Match to Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken tennis teams were unable to knock off Lander on Sunday afternoon at The Joe Cabri Courts.

The 26th-ranked Pacer men fell 7-2 to 11th-ranked Lander, while the Pacer women fell 8-1 to the Bearcats.

The loss by the USC Aiken men (7-5, 1-4) to Lander (13-0, 5-0 PBC) snapped a four-match winning streak. It snapped a two-match winning streak for the USC Aiken women (7-7, 1-5 PBC) in their loss to Lander (11-5, 4-4 PBC).

In the men's match Lucas Gobbi (Santa Bárbara d'Oeste, Brazil /Colegio Politec) claimed USC Aiken's lone point in singles, besting Lander's Carlos Marques 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

USC Aiken's only other point on the day in the men's match came at No. 1 doubles with the nationally 14th-ranked tandem of Gregory Andrade (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Unigrade Valinhos) and Bruno Orlandini (Araraquara, SP/Brazil /Longwood) downing Lander's top doubles duo of Paul-Henri Arrigoni and Marques 8-6.

Margot Simon (Nantes, France/St. Joseph de Loquidy) acquired USC Aiken's lone point in the women's match, besting Lander's Aurelia Ruffat 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 in No. 2 singles.

The USC Aiken women will next welcome Augusta State to the USC Aiken Tennis Complex for a 2:30 p.m. match on Tuesday, March 22.

The USC Aiken men and women will then play host to Columbus State at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex on Friday, March 25. The match is scheduled to get underway at 2:30 p.m.
