AIKEN, S.C. – Both the University of South Carolina Aiken men's and women's tennis teams suffered losses to visiting Anderson on Friday at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex.
In a battle of top 25 teams, 24th-ranked Anderson (3-2) emerged with a 5-3 victory over the 25th-ranked USC Aiken (2-2) men. In the women's match, Anderson (4-1) earned a 5-1 victory over USC Aiken (3-3).
After dropping all of the doubles points, the USC Aiken men were able to pick up three points in singles.
Nationally 38th-ranked Greg Andrade (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Unigrade Valinhos) picked up a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 three set victory over Anderson's Stan Atema at No. 1 singles.
The final Pacer points came at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Bruno Orlandini (Araraquara, SP/Brazil /Longwood) secured the victory for the Pacers at No. 3 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Anderson's Ilya Zakharov. Lucas Gobbi (Santa Bárbara d'Oeste, Brazil /Colegio Politec) garnered the win at No. 4 singles with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Anderson's Daniel Gonzalez.
In the women's match, Margot Simon (Nantes, France/St. Joseph de Loquidy) claimed the lone point for USC Aiken in a 6-4, 6-2 victory over the Trojans' Avery Owens at No. 2 singles.
The USC Aiken men and women return to the USC Aiken Tennis Complex on Saturday for an 11 a.m. Peach Belt Conference match against Flagler.
