AIKEN, S.C.  – The USC Aiken men's and women's tennis teams both dropped heartbreaking 5-4 decisions to Peach Belt Conference foe Lander on Wednesday afternoon at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex.

The 17th-ranked Pacer men took two of the three doubles matches to enter singles with a 2-1 lead, but the Pacers were only able to lay claim to two of the six singles tilts to leave the 14th-ranked Bearcats with the narrow 5-4 victory.

The loss drops the Pacer men back to .500 on the 2010 campaign at 7-7. The Pacers are now 1-5 in the Peach Belt Conference. Lander improved to 12-1 overall. The Bearcats currently own a perfect mark of 4-0 in the PBC.

The USC Aiken women went down to the wire with Lander. Nearly six hours after the afternoon had began and the score even at 4-4, USC Aiken's Ida Sandberg and Lander's Melanise Newbold battled into the third set for the win at No. 6 singles and the overall victory. Newbold was able to hold on barely for a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win that earned the 35th-ranked Bearcats the narrow 5-4 win over the Pacers.

The USC Aiken women after the loss are now 6-8 on the 2010 season. The Pacers enter their next match with a 2-6 mark in the PBC. Lander improved to 10-4 overall (4-3 PBC) with the victory over the Pacers.

The USC Aiken men will next play host to NCAA Division III power Emory at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 26 before the USC Aiken men and women close out the week with two home conference matches at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex.

The Pacers will first play host to Columbus State at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 27 before closing the week by hosting Georgia Southwestern at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 28.
