Pacers Fall 2-1 to Regionally-Ranked Limestone

Box Score GAFFNEY, S.C. - Two goals in the opening 15 minutes of the second half by Limestone doomed the USC Aiken men's soccer team to a 2-1 loss to the regionally-ranked Saints on Wednesday afternoon.

The loss was the Pacers' first in three outings. USC Aiken had entered the match having won twice in the last five days as Wednesday's match was USC Aiken's third in the last five days. USC Aiken bested
North Georgia 1-0 on Saturday, Sept. 12 and then followed that up by dominating Catawba, 7-0, on Monday, September 14.

USC Aiken will finish its tough four games in seven days stretch with a 1 p.m. contest against Mars Hill in Mars Hill, N.C. on Saturday, Sept. 19. The Pacers and Lions will be tangling for the first time since USC Aiken took a 4-3 victory over the Lions to begin the 1999 season on Aug. 28, 1999. 

In the match with Limestone on Wednesday afternoon, USC Aiken found the back of the net first when Troy Watson (Kingston, Jamaica/Montreat) netted his second goal of the 2009 campaign.

The goal left USC Aiken with a slim 1-0 lead at intermission.

The Saints scored two unanswered goals in the second half to earn the 2-1 victory with Ali Benson collecting both of the Saints goals on penalty kicks at the 52:02 mark and the 59:08 mark.

The two teams finished the match with exactly 12 shots. USC Aiken (2-3) held the upper hand in corner kicks at 5-4.
