Quick Start Lifts Pacers To Win

Box Score AIKEN, SC--The USC Aiken Pacers (10-10) opened with six runs in the first inning to post their fourth-straight win, 13-8, over North Greenville College (3-10) on Thursday night in non-conference baseball action at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. USCA improves to 4-0 all-time versus the Crusaders.

Ashley Farr got things rolling in the first inning with a one-out triple down the right field line, scoring Zach Cooper from second base. Farr would add an RBI ground out plating Daniel Quartararo in the second inning to break Tavis Cummings' (1999-2002) school mark for career RBI at 152. Farr finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and four runs scored.

Robert Davis and Tony Hanks added RBI singles in the first followed by Matt Tripp's sacrifice fly to make it 4-0. With two on and two out, Bob Hatcher hit his first homer as a Pacer, a two-run shot that bounced off the top of the left field wall and over to make it 6-0 USCA.

Bradley Key homered in the fifth, a two-run blast to left field to push the Pacers ahead 9-5. Key, the current Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week, continued his strong play of late with a 3-for-5 performance, coming up just a double short of the hitting for the cycle. The 5-11 junior from Evans, Ga. scored twice and drove in two more runs in extending his hitting streak to 11 games.

Davis tacked on a two-run home run in the sixth and Farr scored on a wild pitch in the eighth to make it 13-7.

Aaron Shealy had an RBI single in the second to get the Crusaders on the board 7-2. Shealy was 3-for-6 with two RBI. Travis Brown singled up the middle with two on and two outs in the fifth to pull North Greenville within 7-5, its closest margin of the night. Brown finished 4-for-6 with two RBI.

Jerod Summer (2-1) tossed 5.0 innings of work scattering eight hits, allowing five runs, three earned, walking two and fanning five in the win. Five other Pacer pitchers worked in relief, surrendering three runs, two earned, on six hits and striking out one.

Jarrett Jernigan (1-1) was tagged for 10 runs, eight earned, on nine hits in notching his first defeat of the season. Dylan Davidson pitched 3.1 innings of relief giving up three earned runs on four hits and two walks, striking out four.

USCA, now at .500 on the season, will put their four-game winning streak on the line as they travel to Greenwood, S.C. for a three-game conference showdown with 18th ranked Lander University this weekend. The Pacers have won their last two PBC series and hold a current eight-game winning streak over the Senators. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1:00 PM.
