Pacers Take Rubber Game

Box Score AIKEN, S.C.--Chad Jacobsen recorded the first hit of the game for USC Aiken, a three-run homer over the right field wall with two outs in the second inning, igniting a comeback that resulted in a 10-7 win over Lincoln Memorial (1-2) on Sunday afternoon at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. Trailing 6-1 entering the second inning, the 22nd ranked Pacers (2-1) outscored the Railsplitters 9-1 the rest of the way to take the season opening series.

LMU came out hot against starter Dustin Tyra, touching the transfer from Georgia Southwestern for six earned runs on seven hits in 2.0 innings of work. Sophomore Beau Hill, however, came on in relief to begin the third inning. After giving up a solo home run to Derek Treece to lead off the inning, Hill held the Railsplitters to no runs and two hits over the next 6.0 innings. Picking up the win, Hill (1-0) fanned six and did not allow a walk in facing two over the minimum.

Tied 1-1 in the top of the second with two outs, Lincoln Memorial pushed across five to break the game open, keyed by an RBI triple to left center off the bat of Tommy Casto, plating two runs.

With two aboard in the home half of the inning, Jacobsen launched his three-run blast to right field, cutting the deficit to 6-4. Jacobsen finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored.

Trailing 7-4 in the fourth, USC Aiken capitalized on erratic pitching to score one off a bases loaded walk to Ken Raborn and two more on a pair of wild pitches to go ahead 8-7. On the afternoon, four Railsplitters pitchers combined for 12 walks and one hit batsman.

Darryl Pui stole home in the fifth and Marc Joehnk singled in Raborn in the sixth to set the final margin at 10-7.

Joehnk turned in a 2-for-4 afternoon while Pui scored twice.

Treece led LMU all weekend, going 2-for-4 on Sunday and finishing with three home runs for the series. TeWayne Willis was 3-for-4 while Mike Richardson went 2-for-4.

Casey Sedley allowed seven runs, five earned, on four hits and five walks, striking out five in 3.1 innings of work. Kyle Wakefield (0-1) suffered the loss in one-third of an inning of relief.

Gary Lee (1) notched his first career save with a perfect ninth.

USC Aiken will continue its 20-game homestand to open the 2007 season when the Pacers host Carson-Newman beginning Friday, February 9 at 4:00 PM. Lincoln Memorial returns home to host Ohio Valley on Saturday, February 10 in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM.
