Box Score AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken (3-2) jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held off Carson-Newman (3-3) 4-2 to even up their weekend non-conference baseball series at 1-1 on Saturday afternoon at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The 26th-ranked Pacers got leadoff home runs from Ken Raborn and Chris Sheehan to salt away the win. 

The Pacers grabbed the 2-0 lead in the home half of the second following back-to-back two-out singles from Ben Tankersley and Chad Jacobsen. Raborn (1) smacked a solo shot over the wall in left to lead off the third inning, making it 3-0 in favor of USC Aiken. 

Scott Wandless (1-0) tossed a no-hitter through four complete innings before three-straight hits to lead off the fifth resulted in two Eagles runs. Nick Achberger singled to left field followed by an RBI double down the left field line by Michael Brown. Jim Doran singled up the middle to plate Brown and pull Carson-Newman within a run. 

Wandless finished off the inning without any more damage, going 6.0 innings on the day allowing just three hits and two earned runs, walking three and fanning seven. Three Pacer relievers combined to allow one hit and one walk, striking out four capped off by Gary Lee (2) with save. 

Sheehan (1) belted a homer just inside the fair pole down the right field line to lead off the eighth, setting the final margin at 4-2. Sheehan finished 2-for-4. 

Cole Draughn (1-1) surrendered three earned runs on four hits and four walks, striking out three in 5.0 innings in the loss. 

USC Aiken and Carson-Newman will play the rubber game of their series tomorrow at 1:00 PM at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
