Box Score AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken allowed Augusta State to shoot 70.8 percent in the second half and 62.8 percent for the game as the Jaguars beat the Pacers, 81-62, tonight at "The Courthouse" in Aiken, S.C. USCA (6-19, 2-13 PBC), playing its final home game of the 2004-05 season, was led by
Josh Geyer's 15 points. Cameron Tovey and Roberto Aufiero each netted 17 points for ASU (16-10, 9-6 PBC).
Karim Telfer's three-pointer 18 seconds into the second half extended a six-point halftime lead to nine, 41-32, for Augusta State.
Josh Geyer's lay-up with 14:06 left in the game cut the deficit to just four points, 49-45, but USC Aiken would get no closer.
After Geyer's bucket, the Jaguars scored the next 10 straight and led 59-45 after Tovey's lay-up with 9:40 to play.
Richard Blocker's three-pointer with just under five and half minutes remaining brought the Pacers within nine, 66-57, but USCA missed on its next three attempts to get closer. Aufiero's basket and Tovey's trey extended the ASU advantage back to 14-points, 71-57, inside four minutes left.
Augusta State connected on 17-of-24 second half shot attempts for 70.8 percent. For the game, the Jaguars made 27-of-43 for 62.8 percent. The Pacers were consistent, shooting 13-of-27 (48.1 percent) in each half.
USC Aiken opened the game by knocking down six of its first 10 shots. Geyer's jumper with 13:21 to go before intermission put the Pacers in front 13-6. ASU answered with a 12-2 run to go in front by three, 18-15, with 9:27 on the clock. During the run the Jaguars scored four of their 12 points at the free throw line and made 14-of-17 attempts from the charity stripe in the first half.
For the game, Augusta held a 20-3 advantage at the line. ASU finished 20-of-28 (71.4 percent) while the Pacers went three-for-five (60.0 percent).
A three-pointer from Geyer with 5:25 to go before the break put USCA in front 27-25 and marked the 11th field goal for the Pacers on their first 18 attempts for 61.1 percent.
USC Aiken went cold in the closing minutes, making just two-of-nine from field and missing its final five. The Jaguars made six-of-six from the free throw line in the final 1:15 of the first half and took a 38-32 lead into the locker room.
Kenny Burr and Blocker each finished with 13 points. Blocker added seven rebounds and six assists. Telfer finished with 15 points and eight assists for ASU. Jason Mills tossed in 13 and Clarence Brown scored 10.Â
The Pacers will conclude their 2004-05 regular season on Saturday when they travel to face Lander University in Greenwood, S.C. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.Â
