Missy Deardorff rang up 13 kills, eight digs, and two blocks hitting .500 to lead USC Aiken (15-12, 7-4 PBC) to a Peach Belt Conference volleyball sweep over the visiting UNC Pembroke Lady Braves (10-20, 3-8 PBC) 3-0 on Friday night. Game scores were 30-27, 30-22, and 30-20. The Lady Pacers knock off UNC Pembroke for the sixth-straight time and improve to 31-7 in the overall series.
Sophomore middle hitter
Mandy Gerolstein added 12 kills hitting .320 for the Lady Pacers.
Keri Jackson and
Laura Williams each added six kills and combined for four blocks. Senior setter
Rachel Dalitz dished out 39 assists to go with five kills, one ace, and nine digs.
Jenna Jablonski led the Lady Braves with seven kills and five blocks hitting .235. Alicia Hill and Rebekah Niesborella each tallied eight kills and combined for 22 digs.
UNC Pembroke grabbed the early 10-7 lead in the game one with a 7-0 run. Trailing 23-22, the Lady Pacers scored seven-straight to bolt in front 28-23 and hold on for the 30-27 victory.
In game two, an 8-1 run was the decisive separation of the game as USC Aiken staked a 16-5 advantage keyed by three Gerolstein kills and went on for the 30-22 win.
Tight play in game three had the score knotted up at 11-11 before 11-straight points by the Lady Pacers coming off the serve of libero
Hayden Johnson turned it into a commanding 22-11 advantage for USCA as they posted the 30-20 game three win.
USC Aiken hit .205 for the match with seven aces and 4.0 total blocks. UNC Pembroke hit .131 with just a pair of aces, but registered 8.5 blocks.
USC Aiken will host rival Francis Marion in a key PBC showdown tomorrow at 3:00 PM. This will be "Senior Day" for
Rachel Dalitz and
Emily Beecher and will close out the regular season for both teams. UNC Pembroke will travel across the Savannah River to face Augusta State at 3:00 PM.
