Box Score AIKEN, S.C.--
Mamadou Ndoye scored the game's only goal in the 66th minute of play to lift the USC Aiken Pacers (5-3-2) to the 1-0 victory over Saint Andrews (2-7-0) in men's non-conference soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at "Pacer Pit". With the victory in their first meeting with the Knights since 1997, USCA improves to 4-0-3 all-time in the series.
USCA controlled play in the first half with a commanding 12-2 advantage in shots. Knights' keeper Neil Hastie recorded three of his four saves on the day in the first 45 minutes.
Saint Andrews finished with a 7-5 edge in shots in the second half, but Ndoye made his fourth shot of the day count. The 6-7 senior from Dakar, Senegal took a nice pass ahead from
Plamen Peev to beat Hastie one on one in front of the net. It was Ndoye's fifth marker of the season. With the two points he moves past John Moore into sixth place on the school's all-time scoring list with 45 points.
Krisztian Mikoczi provided the best scoring threat for the Knights. With 3:55 remaining in the contest, Mikoczi fired a shot off a direct kick from 30 yards out through a crowd but
Zac Van Frank made the save. Mikoczi led Saint Andrews with three shots, including two on goal.
Van Frank notched the Pacers' second shutout of the season making five saves in picking up his first win.
USC Aiken will play at #7 UNC Pembroke on Saturday, October 2 at 7:00 PM in a Peach Belt Conference showdown. Saint Andrews will play at Erskine College at 3:00 PM on Saturday in a Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference match.
