Peev's Goal Gives Pacers 2-2 Tie With Bulldogs

Box Score AIKEN, S.C.--Plamen Peev's goal with 4:16 remaining in regulation tied the game at 2-2 and salvaged a double overtime tie with visiting Cumberland University (3-3-1) in men's non-conference soccer action on Wednesday night in Aiken, S.C. USC Aiken (4-2-2) controlled play in both 10-minute extra periods but was unable to score the game winner.

After an own goal was scored by Cumberland in the 26th minute giving USCA an early 1-0 lead, Patrick Rummell (1) beat keeper Marcos Rodriguez in front with 17 seconds left in the half to make it 1-1 at the break.

In the 59th minute, Jon Moore's (1) tally from in front off a Bulldogs' corner kick gave Cumberland its first lead at 2-1.

USC Aiken battled over the final 20 minutes of regulation but could not get the equalizer until Eugene Eshun-Phillips crossed a nice ball from the left end line to Peev (2). The senior midfielder rocketed a shot that just grazed off a leaping defender and out of the reach of keeper Craig Wight.

In the first overtime, Matt Cawley's corner kick with 15 ticks remaining found Mamadou Ndoye in front from 15 yards out, but his attempt sailed just high.

In the second overtime, Wight had to make the save of the game to keep his team alive. Off another USCA corner, Jonathan Berry had a one-on-one shot from just off to the right, but Wight was able to dive to keep the ball out of the net.

USCA out shot Cumberland 21-11 for the match including 10-4 in the second half and 4-1 in overtime. The Pacers held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Wight recorded eight saves, allowing two goals in 110 minutes. Rodriguez stopped five shots and gave up two goals also in 110 minutes.

USC Aiken will host North Florida in a Peach Belt Conference showdown on Saturday, September 25 at 11:30 AM.
