AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken's women's tennis team defeated 27th ranked Augusta State University, 5-4, today at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex in Aiken, S.C. The Lady Pacers, the 40th ranked team in NCAA Division II, improve to 8-9 overall and 3-6 in Peach Belt Conference play. The Lady Jaguars drop to 8-7 in 2004 and 2-7 in the PBC.
USCA got off to a good start by winning two of the three doubles matches.
Dominique Cassetori and
Elly Toth downed Maria Zevallos and Ashley Abrams, 8-1, in the number two doubles match. In the number three doubles match,
Otavia Bastos and
Nicole Copp beat the ASU team of Patricia Lozano and Patricia Zurita, 8-3.
The two teams split the six singles matches. Copp, Toth and Bastos picked up wins in the number three, four and five spots. Cassetori fell in three sets to Zurita in the number two singles match, 3-6, 6-3 and 6-2.
The Lady Pacer tennis team will be back in action on April 1, when they host USC Spartanburg, for a Peach Belt Conference match, at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex, beginning at 3:00 p.m.Â
