Box Score AIKEN, SC--Senior outfielder
Ashley Farr went 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs and five RBI as the USC Aiken Pacers (15-14) scored six unanswered runs to down Saint Andrews College (12-17) by the count of 10-4 in non-conference baseball action on a chilly Tuesday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. As a team, the Pacers belted five long balls, one short of tying the record for most in one game.
With the win, USCA is now 8-2 in their last 10 home games and moves over .500 for the second time this season.
With two outs in the first inning, Farr blasted a solo shot over the left field wall to knot the game up at 1-1.
Daniel Quartararo got in on the action in the third as the Pacers posted a three-spot. Quartararo (2) homered to left field with one out and, following a single by
Zach Cooper, Farr (5) hit his second home run in as many at bats to make it 4-1.
Farr finished a perfect 4-for-4. Quartararo went 1-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.
A sacrifice fly by Everett Kelly plated William Clark in the fifth for the Knights to cut it to a one-run game. A Pacer throwing error by pitcher Derek Claussen on a failed pick off attempt at first base led to the game tying run in the form of Daniel Corey to knot it up at 4-4.
But USCA erupted for five runs in the bottom half of the fifth.
Robert Davis (5) and
Chris Sheehan (2) each pounded two-run blasts and Farr added an RBI single as USCA took a 9-4 advantage after five complete.
Farr, a two-time First-Team All-American and reigning Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, capped one of his best games of the season thus far with an RBI single through the right side, scoring Quartararo to set the final margin at 10-4.
Davis finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Sheehan was 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.
Bradley Key extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a single in the fifth.
Clark was the lone Knight with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored. Kelly finished 1-for-2 but drove in two runs on a pair of sac flies.
Claussen (3-2) tossed 5.0 innings for the Pacers scattering five hits and four walks, allowing four runs, two earned, and striking out three in the win.
Peden Rucker,
Randy Stewart, and
Lee Cromer worked the final 4.0 innings, not allowing a run, giving up just one hit and facing just two over the minimum.
Brad Smith (2-5) was chased after 5.0 inning surrendering nine earned runs on nine hits and two walks, striking out six in the loss.
