Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken's softball team will begin a new era today when it begins play at J.H. Satcher Field, the new home for Lady Pacer softball. USCA will face Newberry College at 5:00 p.m. The Lady Pacers (21-18) are coming off a weekend in which they went 3-2 at the South Carolina Fast Pitch Classic hosted by USC Spartanburg in Spartanburg, S.C.

USC Aiken beat Queens College of Charlotte, 10-0, Mars Hill College, 8-0, and West Virginia State, 4-0, before falling to Lenoir-Rhyne College, 7-5.

Three wins in their first four games earned the Lady Pacers a number three seed, and a first round bye, in the single elimination tournament that capped off the classic. USCA, however, was edged by sixth seeded Lander University, 2-1 in eight innings, in the second round.

Sophomore Jayme Durand broke the USC Aiken career home run record with a solo blast in the third inning against Lander. Durand was tied along with Meredith Headings (2002-03) and Rainy Talbert (1993-95) with 11 career round trippers.

Second seeded Longwood University defeated Lenoir-Rhyne, the fifth seed, 3-0, in the championship game.

Jami Cornwell and Jennifer Scott were selected to the all-tournament team. Cornwell batted .533 in five games with five runs scored, a home run and seven RBIs. Scott hit .500 with three runs scored, two homers and five RBIs. The first baseman now has 10 dingers on the season.

J.H. Satcher Field, the former home of the Pacer baseball squad, has been renovated and will now serve as the new home for the USCA softball team. The Lady Pacers' new home, located conveniently in the middle of campus, includes a climate-controlled press box, concession stand, plenty of parking, coaches' offices and a locker room at the field. Included among the 1,000-seats are 500 seats with backs. The playing surface contains all new clay and sod.
