Pacers Knock Off Patriots

FLORENCE, S.C.--USC Aiken, the 40th ranked team in NCAA Division II, defeated 31st ranked Francis Marion University, 6-3, yesterday in Florence, S.C. The Pacers won for the fourth consecutive time and improved to 11-5 overall and 2-3 in Peach Belt Conference play. The Patriots fall to 6-7 and 0-5 in the PBC. 

USCA lost two of the three doubles matches but came back to win five of the six singles matches. Fernando Guevara and Pierre Negri picked up the Pacers' lone doubles win by beating the FMU team of Ilyar Khammadov and Roshun Razik, 8-4.

Harshit Sharma improved to 12-3 this season in singles play with a 6-5 and 6-4 win over Kevin Taylor in the number one singles match. Negri also picked up a straight set win in the number three singles match.

Nicolas Lombardo, Fernando Blanco and Carlos Huerta won the number four, five and six singles matches in three sets. It took overtime for Huerta to defeat Khammadov, 6-2, 6-7 and 9-7.

The Pacers will return to action on Tuesday when they host Augusta State University, for a Peach Belt Conference match, at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
