Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C.--The nation's 24th ranked team proved to be too potent for the Pacers to handle on Tuesday night as second-seeded USC Upstate (14-3-0) rolled to an 8-1 win over USC Aiken (5-11-2) in first round action at the 2004 Peach Belt Conference men's soccer tournament. The Spartans advance to Friday's semifinal round while the Pacers close out the season amidst an eight-game losing streak. 

Jorge Atehortua scored two of his three goals on the evening in the opening 29 minutes as USC Upstate charged ahead 3-0. Gary Lynch had two goals and three assists on the night including the game winner on a penalty kick in the 24th minute. The reigning PBC Player of the Week upped his season points total to 66 breaking the school's single season scoring mark. 

Trailing 5-0 at the break, the Pacers showed a spark early in the second half. Kevon Aberdeen took a free kick and found Matt Cawley open on the right side of the box to cut the margin to 5-1 in the 49th minute. But the Spartans responded with three more goals in the 8-1 win. 

USC Upstate outshot the Pacers 26-3 and held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. 

In net, Zac Van Frank recorded 11 saves allowing eight goals in 90 minutes for USCA. Jordan Wanner and Terrence McGee each logged 45 minutes in net for the Spartans with neither recording a save. 

The Pacers were whistled for 30 fouls, eight yellow cards, and two red cards while USC Upstate committed 16 fouls and received one yellow card.
