AIKEN, S.C.—USC Aiken's men's tennis team won two matches and lost one over the last five days. The Pacers downed Belmont Abbey College, by a score of 7-2, on Wednesday in Charlotte, N.C. USCA beat the University of Charleston (W.Va.), 5-0, on Sunday at the North/South Tournament in Wilson, N.C. Also on Sunday, USC Aiken lost a Peach Belt Conference match to Columbus State University, 5-1, in Wilson, N.C.
The Pacers' record on the season stands at 6-4 overall and 1-3 in PBC play.
It was the lower seeded players that helped USCA defeat Belmont Abbey College. USC Aiken's number four, five and six seeded players lost just three games on their way to three, straight set, victories.
Nicolas Lombardo defeated Jonathon Pedoulas 6-0 and 6-0.
Carlos Huerta downed Matt Ottaviani 6-2 and 6-0. In the number six singles match,
Bogdan Diaconescu beat Kevin Shannon 6-1 and 6-0.
Harshit Sharma picked up the only other singles victory for the Pacers.
USC Aiken won two of the three doubles matches to take the 7-2 victory.
USCA made quick work of the University of Charleston (W.Va.). The Pacers won two doubles matches and UC defaulted two singles matches and the third doubles match to give USC Aiken the 5-0 win. The team of
Kiril Popov and
Lombardo won 8-1 over Chris Lasker and Michael Marie.
Huerta and
Fernando Guevara beat the duo of Andrew College and Robert Bicker by an 8-6 score.
The Cougars won five of six matches against USCA.
Popov was the lone winner for the Pacers. The senior defeated Fernando Gallegos in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-2. USC Aiken narrowly lost two doubles matches.
Popov and
Lombardo lost 9-7 and the team of
Diaconescu and
Sharma lost 9-8.
The Pacers will be back on the courts Wednesday when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C., for a Peach Belt Conference match with USC Spartanburg at 3:00 p.m.
