Chris Sheehan hit a homer in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings and junior
Ashley Farr capitalized on the second chance in the 10th with a two-run blast to lift the USC Aiken Pacers (14-9) to the 10-9 non-conference win over Southern Indiana (5-5) on Monday night at J.H. Satcher Field. The two teams combined for 31 hits as the Pacers won at home for the 10th time in 11 games.
Trailing the entire game, USC Aiken was down to its final out in the bottom of the ninth facing a 7-6 deficit.
Bradley Key flied out to center field and
Demetrick Drumming struck out swinging to bring up
Sheehan with two outs. With a one-and-one count,
Sheehan(2) hit a rocket over the wall in left center to tie it up at 7-7.
Sheehan finished 2-for-5 with the one RBI and one run scored.
In the top of the 10th, the Screaming Eagles dished out their own dose of late game heroics when
Justin Konopacki tripled over the head of
Clint Keown in center field with two outs scoring
Adam Schiff and
Noah Wetzel to push USI ahead 9-7.
Tony Hanks led off the bottom of the 10th with a single to left field. Following a walk to
Mike Ross,
Keown sacrificed the runners to second and third with one out. A wild pitch by
Derik Hutton allowed
Hanks to score, trimming the deficit to 9-8.
Farr (5), the First-Team All-American, stepped up and crushed a two-run blast over the scoreboard in right field for the dramatic walk off home run.
Keown went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, Farr was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, while
Drumming,
Sheehan,
Cunningham, and
Hanks each tallied two-hit nights for the Pacers.
Hanks (5) also homered in the third inning.
Paul Kohler went 4-for-4 to lead USI while
Steve Owen was 3-for-6 with two doubles, one home run, and three runs scored.
Nick Wandless (3-0) gave up two earned runs on three hits and two walks, striking out one in 2.1 innings of work, but remained unbeaten with the win.

Dan Tomashek worked 6.0 innings allowing four earned runs on eight hits and three walks, striking out two in the no decision. Five more pitchers were used over the next 4.0 innings but it was
Hutton (0-1) giving up the two-run blast to
Farr in the 10th that notched the right-hander the blown save and loss.
