Box Score AIKEN, SC--USC Aiken (9-6) broke open a tight contest against Milligan College (5-2) in the latter innings to pick up the 10-7 non-conference baseball win on Tuesday night at J.H. Satcher Field.
Ashley Farr went 4-for-5 just missing hitting for the cycle with two singles, one double, and one triple to lead the Pacers.
Milligan got on the board early with three runs on three hits in the first. Pacers starter
Bradley Key gave up a solo homer to
Dustin Price, a double to
Jesse Whittemore, and a two-run home run by
Brad Hitch as the Pacers fell in a 3-0 hole.
Key, however, settled down nicely in his first start of the year. The Greenbrier High School product did not allow another hit, strucking out six in 3.0 innings of work.
Chris Wilson pitched the fourth giving up just one hit.
Chad McMurray (1-1) worked the next 2.0 innings holding the Buffaloes in check with one hit, no walks, and four strikeouts in earning the win.
Paul
Ferrell tossed two solid innings before getting roughed up in the ninth when he surrendered four earned runs on five hits.
Trailing 3-2 in the fifth inning,
Farr and
Tony Hanks had RBI singles to give USCA its first lead of the game at 4-3.
Clint Keownadded an RBI, bunt single in the sixth and then
Key (3) got some pay back with a two run homer in the seventh.
Adam Strongmandoubled in
Leroy Walker to make it 8-3 and cap a three-run inning. Four runs in the ninth by Milligan set the final margin at 10-7.
Demetrick Drumming went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while four other Pacers had multi-hit nights.
Price,
Whittemore, and
Nathan Meade were the Buffaloes to register more than one hit on the evening.
Todd Speas (0-1) lasted 5.0 innings allowing four earned runs on nine hits and one walk in the loss.
USC Aiken and Milligan College will play the final game of their two-game set on Wednesday, February 26 at 4:00 PM.
