AIKEN, S.C.—USC Aiken's women's tennis team lost to Francis Marion University, 5-4, on Thursday. The Lady Pacers' matches with Georgia College & State University and Columbus State University scheduled for Friday and Saturday were postponed because of rain. USCA fell to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the Peach Belt Conference. FMU improved to a perfect 4-0 and 1-0 in conference play.
Each team won three singles matches but the Lady Patriots took two of three doubles matches to squeeze out the 5-4 win.
Maria Claudia Romo,
Dominique Cassetori and
Nicole Copp were winners in singles action. After losing the first set,
Romo came back to defeat Ana Carias, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, in number one singles play.
Cassetori beat Stefanie Schaller in straight sets, 6-1 and 7-6, in number two singles.
Copp won a three set battle with Stephanie Bush, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1, in the number four singles match.
On the doubles side, the team of
Cassetori and
Erika Eles beat Francis Marion's duo of Maria Ava Lallemant and Schaller by a score of 8-5.
The Lady Pacers will not return to action until March 6, when they host Northern Kentucky University at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex in Aiken, S.C.
