Box Score AIKEN, SC--Tony Hanks and
Justin Williams combined to drive in five of the Pacers seven runs as USC Aiken (5-6) survived a late charge by North Greenville College (1-4) to hang on to the 7-5 win in non-conference baseball Tuesday night at J.H. Satcher Field. The Pacers snapped their five-game losing streak.
Leading 7-5 in the top of the eighth,
Chris Wilson gave up hits to
Jimmy Baylis and
Adam Dietterick and walked
Matt Rollins to load the bases with one out. USCA head coach
Kenny Thomas brought in
Mike Pomaville, the Pacers number one starter, to get his team out of a jam.
Pomaville (1) struck out
Aaron Shealy and got
Ramon Kelly to ground out to
Demetrick Drumming at second base to end the threat.
Pomaville worked a perfect ninth for his first save.
The Crusaders jumper on starter
Jerod Summer (1-0) in the first with two runs on two hits and aided by an error, but after that
Summer settled down. He worked 5.0 innings scattering six hits, allowing three runs, one earned, and walking one in the win.
Chad McMurray and
Wilson worked 2.1 innings of relief allowing two earned runs on five hits and one walk.
Tony Hanks delivered a one-out, two RBI triple to right center field in the bottom of the first to plate
Drumming and
Ashley Farr and tie the game at 2-2.
Hanks was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, and was twice hit by a pitch.
In the third inning, the Pacers took their first lead at 5-2 on a
Williams RBI double down the left field line scoring
Hanks and
Mike Cunningham.
Leroy Walker added an RBI ground out scoring
Williams from third.
Williams and
Walker were back at it in the fifth making it 7-3. An RBI single by
Williams scored
Hanks and
Walker's RBI double pushed home
Williams.
Williams finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored for the Pacers.
Dietterick blasted a
Chad McMurray full count, two-out pitch over the wall in left field to trim the margin to 7-5 in the sixth, but North Greenville could get no closer.
Robbie Daniels and
Baylis each had three hits to lead the Crusaders.
Kevin Lee (0-1) surrendered seven earned runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out eight in 5.0 innings of work in the loss.
Josh Smith allowed one hit and two walks in 1.1 innings of work while
Jonathan Guest was perfect over the final 1.2 innings.
USC Aiken hosts #26 Lander University on Saturday, February 22 in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM. The two teams will play the series finale on Sunday at 2:00 PM.
