Box Score AIKEN, S.C.--Ade Mason scored his only two points of the night at the free-throw line with four seconds left in the game to give Lander University a 62-61 win over USC Aiken at "The Courthouse" in Aiken, S.C. on Saturday night. A homecoming night crowd of 2,059 saw the Pacers drop to 2-17 on the season and 1-10 in the Peach Belt Conference. The Senators won their second straight to improve to 4-13 overall and 2-8 in the PBC.
Lee Burton knocked down a three-pointer to put the Pacers up 59-58 with 1:25 left in the game after Lander used a 12-2 run to turn an eight-point deficit into a two-point lead. The two teams exchanged lay-ups, with
Bryant Latimer's bucket with 11 seconds to play giving the one point lead back to USCA, 61-60.
Mason beat the Pacer press and drove to the basket, drawing the foul with four seconds left. After Mason hit his two free-throws,
Eric Dugans drove the length of the floor but was called for traveling 15 feet from the USC Aiken basket, turning the ball over to Lander with four-tenths of a second left.
Latimer's lay-up with 3:57 left in the first half put the Pacers out in front, 26-25. USC Aiken held onto the lead until 2:50 left in the game.
Burton's three free-throws, after being fouled on a three-point attempt, capped a 9-0 USCA run and put the Pacers ahead by eight, 33-25, with 2:17 left in the first half.
Burton scored a game-high 19 points and added four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Adrian Penland cut the lead to four with seven seconds to go before intermission with a three-pointer for Lander. Penland finished with eight rebounds and a team-high 15
points, on six-of-22 shooting.
A free-throw by
Todd Williams extended the four-point halftime lead to five points, 37-32, with 18:42 left in the game. Ron Hampton's dunk cut the USC Aiken lead to one, 37-36, with 16:01 to play. Hampton was called for a technical foul for hanging on the rim after his dunk. His 15 points tied Penland for the team best.

Williams' lay-up gave USC Aiken a six-point lead, 42-36. Back to back lay-ups by
Minda Statkus gave USCA their largest lead of the game, nine points, 50-41, with 9:46 left on the clock.
After
Burton's jumper made the score 54-46, with 5:56 remaining, the Senators began their 12-2 run to take the lead.
For the game, USC Aiken shot 43.8 percent (21-of-48) compared to 31.3 percent (21-of-67) for Lander. The Senators held a 43-34 advantage on the boards and turned the ball over 12 times while the Pacers made 17 miscues.
Next up for the Pacers will be a trip to Jacksonville, Fla., on Wednesday for their second game in a week with the University of North Florida. The Ospreys defeated USCA, 83-82, at "The Courthouse" on January 29.
