Pacers Shut Down Railsplitters

Box Score AIKEN, SC--Junior right hander Mike Pomaville made an impression in his first start for USC Aiken as the 15th ranked Pacers (1-0) defeated the visiting Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters (0-1) 7-1 in on Saturday afternoon at J.H. Satcher Field.  

Pomaville (1-0) had a no-hitter through 5.2 innings and allowed just one earned run on one hit with five strikeouts in picking up the win.  Chad McMurrayPaul Ferrell, and David Caison each tossed one inning of relief combining for no hits, no runs, and three strikeouts.  

A five-run seventh inning broke open a 2-1 game when Tony Hanks (1) led off with a solo home run to right field off reliever Alex Shedden.  Shedden surrendered five runs, all earned, on five hits and one walk in six batters faced.  Starter Brandon Conrad (0-1) worked 6.0 strong innings allowing two earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five.  

Following the Hanks blast, Leroy Walker and Chris Sheehan had back-to-back singles setting up Mike Ross' RBI single to center field.  Clint Keown then drew a walk to load the bases and a balk assessed to Shedden plated Sheehan.  Justin Williams cranked a shot to the gap in right center to score Keown and Ross and make it 7-1 before Alex Queen came on in reliever to get the Railsplitters out of a jam.  

Scoreless through two and one-half innings, Ross doubled to left center to lead off the third.  Following a sacrifice bunt by Keown,Williams' RBI groundout made it 1-0 in favor of the Pacers.

LMU tied it up in the top of the sixth when a Jim Wernke single to center field scoring David Kelley from second.  Demetrick Drumming quickly gave the lead back to USCA in the bottom half of the inning with a one out single to right field scoring Bradley Keyfrom second who had doubled.  

HanksSheehan, and Ross each posted two hits for the Pacers while Williams had a game-high three RBI.  

Wernke had the lone hit for Lincoln Memorial.  However, clean-up hitter Ben Fox was 0-for-0 with four walks.
