AIKEN, SC—The USC Spartanburg Rifles posted a sweep of USC Aiken in men and women's tennis on Wednesday. The Pacers fell 7-2 and the Lady Pacers lost 6-3. USCA's men's team falls to 8-7 on the season and 1-6 in the Peach Belt. The Lady Pacers fall to 9-8 on the year and 1-8 in conference action.
The men dropped all three doubles matches to begin the match.
Joerg Neubauer won the No. 2 singles match for USCA over
Allesandro De Marzo 6-0 and 7-5.
Will Elliott won the other singles match for USCA at No. 3.
Jose Echandia dropped the match giving USCA its only two points, 6-2, 6-2.
On the women's side, the Lady Pacers jumped out to an early 2-1 lead through the doubles matches as
Maria Claudia Romo and
Erika Eles defeated
Marcela Gonzalez and
Paula Fillion 8-5. USCA took the final doubles match for the lead as
Roxanna Mazsa and
Lexi McCarty defeated their opponents 8-4.
Arcos dropped the first singles match to
Gonzalez in a three-set match 6-1, 2-6, 2-6 as the Lady Rifles tied the match at two apiece. USCS proved to be too much for the Pacers throughout the rest of the singles matches, taking 5-of-6 to win the match 6-3. The lone singles victory was at No. 2 as Romo dumped
Martina Stocklaskora 6-4 and 6-3.
The Pacers look to rebound this weekend in a non-conference match at Queens College on April 6 and a home match against Lynn on April 7.
