Pacers Down Crusaders

Box Score AIKEN, SC--Clint Keown and Tavis Cummings hit back-to-back home runs with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to insure the 20th ranked USC Aiken Pacers (32-17) a 14-9 win over North Greenville College (14-32) in non-conference baseball Thursday night at J.H. Satcher Field.  The win extended the Pacers' non-conference winning streak to seven games.

Keown, inserted into right field in the top of seventh, smacked the Kevin Lee offering over the left field wall for his first of the season. Tavis Cummings, an All-Conference and All-Region First-Teamer in 2001, followed Keown's shot with his seventh bomb of the season, a blast over the 395-sign in straight away center field.  With the game 12-9 entering the inning, the two runs provided breathing room for the Pacers in the seesaw affair.

After the Crusaders opened the game with a 2-0 lead on Andy Rogers two-run homer to left field, USCA responded with four runs in the bottom of the first on Tony Hanks three-RBI double down the right field line.  But North Greenville then plated three in the second and two more in the third to claim a 7-4 lead.  The Crusaders held a 9-6 advantage heading into the Pacers' half of the fifth until a six-run outburst gave USCA their first lead since the first inning.  Leroy Walker hit a two-run double and the Pacers capitalized on a costly Crusaders' error to score two unearned runs.

Matt Rollins led NGC going 4-for-5 with two runs scored.  Rogers was 3-for-5 with a game-high five RBI.

Cummings finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and four runs scored while Demetrick Drumming and Ashley Farr each added two hits for the Pacers.
Andy Mitchell started the game for the Pacers but did not make it out of the second allowing five earned runs on five hits.  Chad McMurray relieved Mitchell giving up four runs, two earned, on five hits and two walks striking out three.  Lee Cromer (3-0) worked a hitless, scoreless 1.1 innings fanning three in notching his third win and lowering his team best ERA to 1.21.  Mitch HearneDavid Caison, and Bradley Key combined to allow no runs on just one hit over the final 3.0 innings.

Jarrett Jernigan (0-8) surrendered 10 runs, seven earned, on seven hits and six walks in notching his eighth straight loss.

The Pacers return to action this weekend when they host #4 North Florida in a three-game Peach Belt Conference series.  USCA will host "Family Weekend" as well as "Senior Day" on Sunday.
