Box Score AIKEN, SC--Armstrong Atlantic State shut down every one in the Pacer lineup except for
Ashley Farr as the Pirates (27-10, 5-8 PBC) snapped their six-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over USC Aiken (23-14, 7-9 PBC) on Friday night at J.H. Satcher Field.
Farr was 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs driving in all three Pacer runs in this Peach Belt Conference series opener.
USCA drew first blood in the second inning as
Farr crushed a
Mike Roga pitch over the right center field wall to make it 1-0.
Farr extended his hitting streak to eight games and upped his team best batting average to .433.
Roga (8-3) tossed 6.0 innings of three-hit baseball, two of them homers to
Farr accounting for all three runs allowed. He struck out nine and walked three, picking up a win for the first time in his last three decisions.
Zach Shelnutt (5) retired all nine batters he faced recording six strikeouts in notching his fifth save.
Pirate catcher
David Harriman was 1-for-3 extending his PBC record tying hitting streak to 37 games. He is now tied for fourth with
JuJu Foreman (Augusta State) on the NCAA Division II all-time list.
Chris Dentler's RBI ground out in the third scored
Adam Brandenburg from third to knot the game at 1-1. In the fourth, the Pirates plated three runs on three hits and one Pacer error to push the margin to 4-1.
Farr hit his 10th homer of the season in the sixth inning, a two-run shot to right center, to cut the lead to one, but AASU added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on
Rob Mills' lead off home run to right field.
Bradley Key (0-3) worked 3.2 innings surrendering four earned runs on six hits and six walks while striking out six.
Lee Cromer gave up the homer to Mills but allowed just two other hits in 2.1 innings of relief.
Matt Ockuly held the Pirates to one hit over the final 3.0 innings striking out four.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 PM.
