Box Score AIKEN, SC--After a rainout yesterday, the Pacers and Patriots completed the three game series that started on Friday. USCA (11-7, 5-4 PBC) posted a 7-0 shutout over the Patriots (6-14, 2-10 PBC) behind the Pacers first complete game of the season by freshman
Paul Ferrell.
USCA got on the board in the third inning as
Leroy Walker reached on an error by FMU and later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Tavis Cummings. In the very next inning, the Pacers found the scoreboard again, this time, two runs on three hits. A double by
Bradley Key highlighted the inning as well as a single by
Clint Keown who returns to baseball after a record-setting year on the basketball court. Both runs came on sacrifice bunts.
A single through the left side by
Drumming scored the fourth run of the game four the Pacers in the bottom of the fifth. Two more runs would come across for the Pacers in the inning as
Ashley Farr belted a two-run double, scoring
Drumming and
Cummings, giving USCA a 6-0 lead.
In the sixth inning, USCA tacked on another run as
Keown stepped on the dish after he stole third and scored on the sixth wild pitch by Patriot hurler
Kyle Lucas.
Ferrell and the Pacers shut down any attempted rally by FMU in the last three innings for the win.
Ferrell (1-0) went the distance, allowing the two hits, walking two and striking out five batters for his first win of the season.
Farr was 3-of-4 on the day with two RBI.
Keown was 1-of-2 on the day with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored in his return.
The Pacers will host Southern Indiana tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. and then play the same Screaming Eagles team on Thursday also at 6:00 p.m. at J.H. Satcher Field.
