Box Score AIKEN, SC--The USCA Pacers (15-8) hung on for its life yesterday as Lincoln Memorial (14-5) posted five runs in the top of the ninth, but were unable to get the tying run. USCA won 16-15. Today, the Pacers cruised to a 7-2 victory in the rubber-match behind a complete game by
Jason Nuzny.
The Railsplitters scored the first run of the game in the second inning on a single by
Aaron Geiser, scoring
Taylor Gandy from second. That lead would be short lived as the Pacers posted four runs in the bottom of the third and never looked back
A two run single by
Tavis Cummings put the Pacers up for good in the third. Following that hit,
Ashley Farr belted a single to right field, scoring
Cummings. In the third, the Pacers scored four times on five hits to open a 4-1 lead through three innings.
The Pacers got two more runs in the fifth inning building a 6-1 lead as
Nuzny looked the best on the hill as he has been all season. LMU got one run back in the sixth inning but were unable to get more than that as it left nine men on base.
Nuzny (2-3) went the distance for the first time this season. He gave up six hits, two runs, both earned, two walks and six strikeouts.
Steven Morris (2-3), had been playing the first two games in right field, went the distance also allowing ten hits, seven runs, six earned, three walks and four strikeouts, in the losing effort.
The Pacers will continue this homestand as they will battle Lindsey Wilson in a two-game set on Wednesday, March 13 and Thursday, March 14. After that, USCA will get back into conference action with a weekend series at Kennesaw State.
