Box Score 2 GREENWOOD, SC--Tavis Cummings just missed hitting for the cycle going 4-for-5 with two singles, one double, and one triple as the USC Aiken Pacers (8-6, 3-3 PBC) defeated Lander University (4-8, 3-6 PBC) 10-9 in the first game of a Peach Belt Conference twinbill on Saturday afternoon at Legion Field. USCA took game two 7-3 to complete the series sweep and move to .500 in the conference.
In the first game, the Pacers pounded out 16 hits en route to building an 8-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Senators, however, got three in the seventh and six in the eighth to tie the game at 9-9. In the ninth,
Ashley Morgan singled to left field with one away. He stole second base, and then scored on
Justin Williams' single for the game winner.
Williams was 4-for-4 while
Morgan finished 2-for-5.
Paul Ferrell worked 7.0 innings allowing just four hits and one walk, but four unearned runs led to his no decision.
Lee Cromer (2-0) worked the final two innings, giving up one hit and surrendering one unearned run in the win.
Jeff Easterday (0-1) gave up four earned runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings of relief in notching the loss for Lander.
Ashley Farr was 3-for-4 with two RBI while
Demetrick Drumming was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI.
In game two, USCA got triples from
Leroy Walker,
Morgan, and
Farr in the 7-3 win.
Farr was 3-for-4 with two doubles and one triple, scoring three runs.
Anthony Marchioli (2-2) picked up his second win of the season scattering nine hits over 6.2 innings. He allowed three earned runs while striking out four and walking one.
Matt Ockuly came on to face the game's final batter in
Brad Taylor getting him to ground out.
USCA returns home to J.H. Satcher Field to face Brevard College in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday, February 27 at 6:00 PM.
