Box Score AIKEN, SC--In the first two games of the Pacers' non-conference baseball series with Carson-Newman, it was the Eagles (4-3) jumping out to the early lead and USC Aiken (3-3) making the comeback.  On Sunday in the rubber match of the series, USCA grabbed the early lead but failed to hold it as Carson-Newman notched the 8-5 win to take the series 2-1.

Jason Nuzny (0-1) cruised through four innings not allowing a hit as the Pacers built a 3-0 lead.  In the fifth inning, Ryan Haunregistered the Eagles first hit and first run in the same at bat, crushing a pitch over the left field fence to make it 3-1.  Wes Miller led off the sixth inning with a single followed by a walk to Aaron Shaffer.  What would ensue was a disaster as Carson-Newman scored four runs on two hits and one error to charge in front 5-3.  

Nuzny went 5.1 innings giving up five runs, only two earned, on three hits and five walks while striking out one.

Jim Higgins smacked a one-out single to center field and later came around to score making it 6-3 in the seventh.  Then Jared Hubbard found a hole in the left side of the infield scoring two runs with two outs in the ninth to ice the game 8-5.

The Pacers loaded the bases in the ninth with two outs and Leroy Walker at the plate, but he grounded out to third base to end the game.

Chris Henegar (1-1) came on in relief of Brad Schrock to notch the win for Carson-Newman.  In 4.0 innings, he scattered five hits and three walks allowing two earned runs.  Ryan West worked the eighth and ninth for his second save.

Clint Keown made his first appearance of the season for the Pacers posting two hits, one run scored, and one RBI.  Tavis Cummings also notched a pair of singles.
