AIKEN, SC--University of North Florida (3-2-1, 1-1-0) scored the game-winning goal on a direct kick from
Daniel Astrom in the 88th minute of play to defeat USC Aiken men's soccer team (4-4-0, 1-2-0) 2-1 Saturday night in Peach Belt Conference action.
Senior
Richard Wolf gave the Pacers a 1-0 lead with 10 minutes to play in the first half with a goal assisted by freshman
Plamen Peev. But the Ospreys retaliated with a goal of their own four minutes later by
Martin Sjogren, assisted by
Robert West to send it to halftime tied at one-apiece.
After 42 minutes of scoreless second half play,
Astrom sank the Pacers' hopes when he nailed the direct kick past
Peter Calabrese.
Calabrese had a strong outing though, recording nine save while giving up UNF's two goals.
The loss drops the Pacers to .500 on the season. Their next game is Wednesday, September 26 at home against Lander at 7:00 PM.
