SAVANNAH, GA--The 20th ranked USC Aiken Pacers (22-4, 5-3 in PBC) entered the 2001 Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Tournament as the fifth seed after surging with four straight PBC wins to close out the regular season. But the Pacers had the tough task of facing the nation's fourth ranked team and tournament host Armstrong Atlantic State University (14-7, 5-3 in PBC) as the Pirates downed the Pacers 5-1 in the opening round match.
AASU took two of three doubles matches with the USCA duo of
Christian Weber / Nils Gruetzmacher notching an 8-5 win over
Frederik de Beer / Stefan Wirtz in the No. 2 match.
USCA will next play Augusta State (10-11, 1-7 in PBC) at 5:00 PM on Friday, April 20 in the loser's bracket. The winner will play the winner of the USC Spartanburg-Georgia College & State University match for fifth place.
