AIKEN, S.C. – The USC Aiken men's soccer team battled the #13 ranked team in the country, Francis Marion, to a 3-3 tie.
It was a back and forth game all the way through till the last twenty seconds of regulation, when USCA's freshman
Paul Okumu nailed a 30 yard kick that went off a FMU player's head and over the Patriot's goalkeeper, Mike Cruikshank, which tied the game 3-3. Then, the Pacers held the Patriots for two overtimes to take home the tie.
Most of the game the Patriots controlled the ball as they outshot USCA 26-11 for the afternoon. USCA's goalkeeper,
David Walker, finished with 10 saves on the day while Cruikshank recorded three.
USCA got on the board first as
Brian Wilson scored on a direct kick which hit the goal post and went in for his fourth goal of the season. Then, Dzevant Nikocaj scored two straight goals to give FMU a 2-1 lead at halftime.
After the break, senior
Fabio Neves found freshman
Richard Wolf in front of the net to tie the score 2-2 in teh63rd minute of the game. With three minutes left in regulation Josh Walters found a gap in center and scooted a shot past Walker for a 3-2 FMU lead. USC Aiken did not give up as they challenged the Patriots till the very end and with 20 seconds remaining it paid off as Okumu scored to tie it at 3-3.
