USCS Shuts Out USCA, 2-0


SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC-Spartanburg men's soccer team scored a goal early in each half as they downed USC Aiken 2-0 Friday afternoon at Rifle Field.

With the win, the Rifles improve to 9-6-2 overall while the Pacers fall to 3-11-1.

USCS, which outshot USCA 14-0, scored its first 3:09 into the match on an unassisted goal by Peter Kirkelos in front of the goal.

The Rifles added an insurance goal 1:54 into the second half when Matt Lucas scored his 13th of the season on a penalty kick after Kirkelos was fouled in the box.

USCS keeper Josh Martin recorded his fifth shutout of the season and the 14th in his career. In eight meetings between the schools, the Rifles have held the Pacers scoreless in seven.
