Box Score AIKEN, S.C. – The USC-Aiken men's soccer team came out and blasted Newberry College 5-1.
Only 7:31 into the game, junior forward
Brad Saenz scored off a direct kick from senior
Zach Craddock for his first goal of the season.
Then, at the 15 minute mark Saenz dished to senior
Danny King who tapped the ball in for a goal. The goal by King was his third in only eight games playing in the field for his career.
The Indians got on the board after Steven Beavers connected on a penalty kick (32:58).
In the first half the Pacers played very tight defense, holding Newberry to only one shot. Halftime score was 2-1 USCA.
The second half was no let down as the Pacers came out firing. Senior
Scott Sipala kicked a long ball up the field to
Matt Parish, who scored his second goal of the season (57:26) over the Indians goalkeeper Joe Hamric.
Saenz was not finished yet for the Pacers, when King hit him for a breakaway goal at the 65:11 mark in the second half.
To top off an excellent afternoon for the Pacers, Thomas Renolds, who just moments before stepped into the game, scored his first collegiate goal (assisted by Saenza and
James Horton) at the 77:08 minute.
Renolds walked on this season after playing his high school ball at Aiken H.S.
Today's game marked the most goals scored by a USC-Aiken soccer team since the 1995-96 season against Mt. Olive.
USC Aiken outshot Newberry 17-8. The 17 shots by USCA was the most this season.
