AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball standout Rebecca Martinez has been named the South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Student-Athlete of the Month for September.

Martinez, a 5-5 sophomore libero from Wellington, Fla., led the Pacers to a 12-2 record in September.

She leads the PBC with 6.21 digs per set. Martinez is fourth in total digs with 292. She has reached double-digit digs in 13 of the 14 matches thus far – and only played in two sets in the one she did not have double digits.

Martinez picked up PBC Specialist of the Week honors once in the month. Additionally, Martinez has four of the top eight performances in school history for digs in a three-set match, including a school-record 33 in the victory over UNC Pembroke.

The South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month award honors one student-athlete each month from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort. Each month during the 2017-18 athletic year one winner will be chosen from an in-season sport.
